Teaching Science Outdoors with Planting and Community Gardening
At Penn Alexander School, they are fortunate enough to have a large school grounds and an amazing school garden that includes many raised beds, mulched areas, flowers, vegetables, herbs and more. The garden also boasts a green roofed shed, two rain barrels and a compost bin. Students were able to spend class periods outside reading and writing in addition to planting and tending the garden. We also had a very successful community gardening day with over 100 people from the greater school community in attendance! I couldn't be more excited about what a great learning environment it is for students and the kinds of amazing learning experiences that are had there.
